'Werewolf' Sisters Affected By Rare Mutation

Monday 13th February 2012 | Osh

The chances of one person being affected are very low considering it’s just one in every billion! However, three sisters and their mother have been diagnosed with the rare genetic mutation.

The Sangli sisters- Savita, 23, Monish,19, Savriti 15 and mum Anita Sambhaji Raul, all suffer from a disease which causes hair growth around the face and the body.  It is called hypertrichosis universalis (Ambras Syndrome). Facial hair grows abnormally and the condition is largely incurable. Although with special hair removal cream they are able to keep it slightly under control. There are two types of ‘werewolf syndrome’(which can be present at birth or acquired later in life). One affects the whole body and the other only affects a certain part of the body.
