So you’ve had a few tracks out now, when are we going to get to hear Doctor P’s debut album, are you currently working on it?
There are no plans at the moment it seems like people want me to do one. It is something I would want to do one day but I haven’t started it yet. I can see it happening if I had the time to sit down and do it then I would but it’s just whether I can. I’m going to try and slow down on the remixes and maybe try and slow down on the gigs as well because this year has been crazy. I haven’t had a chance to make any music at all but yeah I would like to sit down and make some music again, it would be nice.
How do you decide on what to remix?
Well normally the record companies come to us and say “we’ve got this track we want to remix, do you want to do it.” Then I listen to it and choose or my manger normally says this one would be good for your profile and stuff but most of the time I just like the track.
What is the next major remix you’re going to do?
The next one is a Plan B track; it’s called ‘Love Goes Down’ or something. I’ve got no idea whether I’m supposed to tell you about it, I don’t know whether I’m supposed to be secretive... but yeah I think its off his album.
‘Sweet Shop’ was a massive hit this summer do you ever get bored of hearing it?
I still like the track but I do get bored talking about it. I think the track is bigger than I am, apparently “Doctor P - ‘Sweet Shop’” is searched more on YouTube than just “Doctor P.”
Is there anywhere in the UK or worldwide that you really enjoy playing?
I don’t think I’ve ever done a bad gig in Manchester, so I’m convinced that Manchester is the best place to play. A few gigs I’ve played in London have been a bit rubbish, I mean there are some places that are really good but I think sometimes there is too much going on in London. There is something on every night of the week in London and I think they just get a bit watered down, people only go to one. Whereas, in somewhere like Manchester, they happen a little bit less often so it seems like more people go there. Like everyone who likes Dubstep will go to most of the events up there so it’s always really good and Europe’s always like that as well.
What’s your opinion of the Dubstep scene at the moment?
I think it’s really changing. There needs to be more out there. Flux and me were talking the other day about how we are struggling to find stuff worth dropping that’s new. There is a lot of old stuff that still goes down well. All the new stuff is kind of like ‘the Katy B style’ stuff and I think that people that come and see me don’t necessarily want to hear that.
Is there anyone you’ve got your eye on to do collaborations with?
There are a few people that have asked me... Bassnectar was asking me the other day if I wanted to do something, it’s just finding the time. I mean I would be happy to do stuff with everyone but its just finding the time. I haven’t done an original track in a couple of months now, I want to do a few originals before I start doing stuff with others.
Favourite track of the moment?
You and Me by Nero - that’s really good, its kind of not even Dubstep, it’s a rocky almost Pendulumly type sound.
What are your plans for the next few months and early 2011?
Well in November I’ve got a stupid amount of gigs, I don’t think I’ve got more than three days off at any point! But December is pretty empty so that should be alright and January’s pretty empty as well, so during December and January I might actually get to make some music!
