Boys Noize Interview

House | Thursday 15th December 2011 | Osh

The Guestlist Network caught up with Boys Noize AKA Alexandra Ridha to talk about his history, deejaying, his love for playing in our fair city London & his plans for the future.
You started producing music from a very early age how has the journey been for you?
I started dj’ing when I was 16 years old it has been a really good experience so far. It is really important for me to be inspired by an artist just as much as they may have been inspired by me. The journey so far has been really good!
What are you working on with your music at the moment?
I am working on new track with Mr Oizo, Mr Oizo is one of my favourite producers in the world aswell! He did a remix for me last year for one of my album tracks and what i do usually with friends is that we do swap remixes so one of the guys does a remix for me and in return i do a remix for them. Mr.Oizo said he didn’t need any remix’s right now as he hasn’t got any music out there so instead were doing a track together so that’s what I’m doing at the moment.
You have played a few dates with Tiga, how was that?
It’s always funny, he’s a really cool guy and we get on really well and he is a really good DJ aswell. We did two or three dates in one weekend together, it’s always great to hang out with him, he is as I say a really funny guy!
You have played lots of different places around the world is there anywhere yet that you would like to play?
Yeah I mean to be honest I love to come to the UK, I love to play in London right now as there is a really exciting movement of young people going on. When i play in the clubs I really feel that people are opened minded to hear what is next for me, that’s the idea of being a DJ to show the people what’s next and to show the freshest stuff that no one has heard. So when I come to London I always feel the vibes and it’s great.
What has been one of your highlights of your career?
Oh i must say there are many! For instance my first DJ gig in a proper club was one of my highlights I was 16 years old and back then i was playing deep house and min house it was the end of the nineties, after that night so many things happened. My first Boys Noize on Jingo records Top 3 for me that was kinda big. Then Depeche Mode asked me to release the song Personal Jesus, which was pretty special, then setting up my own label - that was always dream for me, I released my first album on my own label. I basically worked with friends… just being able to work with inspiring and talented musicians is what I love, and I was really happy about that and travelling the world you know, it’s just my life.
Have you got any new music coming out?
Yes, we are celebrating the 50th release of my label, Boys Noize Records. For this I’m releasing two new tracks, I just finished them and they are going to be out in September. One is more of a house track, and the other is more heavy. So yeah I’m really excited for those two tracks, and I’m working on some other new stuff as well.
And are you playing any clubs or gigs soon?
Yeah I have a big festival coming up called South West Four. I’m really excited about this because we are going to hold a full stage and friends like Switch and A- Track are playing as well, and artists from my label and we are doing the full stage at that festival.
So what can we expect from Boys Noize in the future?
I’m still working on a live show which I’ve been planning for a long time because at the festivals there’s never been a live show where i just play all music. I was getting bored and new technology is allowing me to leave out all computers so i go on stage without any computers just with real machines and present the music live. It´s the hardest thing because I’m alone most of the time, with other people you have more arms, but it’s really hard to get my music together live without a computer you know, that would have been easier. So yeah I’m working on that and next year you can expect something like that.
Sound’s great! Thank you for talking to us today and maybe we’ll catch up at South West Four?
Yeah that would be good! We’ll have a drink or something!
Yeah we’ll have a party! Thanks for your time.
Thank you!
