Out on Saved Records, December 12th
Saved Records begin to wrap up their most successful year to date with an extra special collaboration between Detroit legend Rolando and label boss Nic Fanciulli. Rolando’s first collaboration since the esteemed American left the highly influential collective, Underground Resistance, The Test is a powerful, bass driven bomb that bristles with a firing intensity throughout.
Rolando makes a welcome return to Saved two years after the success of his Afterlife EP back in 2009. But this time the Berghain regular and ex-Underground Resistance member was joined by Nic Fanciulli in the studio to deliver a stellar joint project for the label. The result is a driving tech monster that pulsates with an old school energy whilst displaying the subtle musicianship of both legendary producers. Built on deep, pounding kicks and whirring basslines, The Test is a kick-start of adrenalin for anyone left dozing in the all too comfortable surroundings of a current techno scene that fails to push the boundaries too often. Intelligent chords and bright hats create a contrast to the hard-hitting beats to inject a soul and personality into the track alongside its already present pacey lust for life.
Merging the traditions of techno from both sides of the Atlantic, these two heavyweight producers reference the past whilst pushing the scene that first inspired them to make music moving relentlessly forward. AndThe Test is yet another reminder that these two guys remain at the top of the class!!
