Guestlist Recommends Dubstep... Orphan101 Thursday 3rd November 2011 | Osh Bristol continues to remind the world of its dance music pedigree. It would seem that there are certain parts of the world where the people are raised on magic dust and as anyone who’s heard of Pinch, Peverelist or Headhunter will attest Bristol is one of those places. For anyone interested in any of the formerly mentioned, look up Orphan101 (real name Robert Davis) and add him to that list. Propa/Disemble, his recent release on Laurie Osborne’s Applepips label is a brilliant example of everything that’s good about the genre ambiguity surrounding UK bass music at the moment. His previous releases on DECA Rhythm and Saigon place his roots in dub techno and, in the same vein as producers like Cosmin TRG and Scuba, he is brilliantly successful at marrying two genres that in this writers opinion are at their best together.
