Andre Sutherland otherwise known as Popcaan was raised in the harsh neighbourhood of Portmore in St. Catherine of Jamaica. Despite his rough upbringing he didn’t turn to violence and crime like most of his friends. Luck was on Popcaan’s side when his talent was recognised by leading dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel and was signed to his label Addijaheim. The singles ‘Dream’ which has over a million views on youtube and ‘Gangster City’ both talk about inner city hardships, death and poverty all of which he endured. Another popular single is ‘Clarks,’ though Popcaan only featured on the track made immense success and Clarks sales skyrocketed after the single was released last year. Popcaan is steadily moving up the dancehall ranks so expect to hear him in clubs all over the UK. As part of the Gaza empire he’s the one to watch releasing songs around the clock.
