“Where’s my head at?!” 100 Brains STOLEN.

Other | Wednesday 3rd December 2014 | Izaradz

100 brains preserved in jars of formaldehyde have gone missing from the labs at the University of Texas in Austin. The curators of the collection are still not able to identify the brain thieves, however Professor Lawrence Cormack theorises that “It’s entirely possible word got around among undergraduates and people started swiping them for living rooms or Halloween pranks.”

Furthermore, one of the missing brains may be that of Charles Whitman. Whitman was a sniper who in 1966, barricaded himself on the deck of the University observation tower, and shot 16 people, including his mother and wife. To this day, the shooting is one of the largest campus shootings in the United States. The other brains were taken from deceased patients of Austin State Hospital, once a State Lunatic Asylum.

Although the University’s agreement with the hospital from which the brains came from, requires all details and tags to specimens to be removed, the curators believe that Whitman’s brain was likely to be among the stolen goods. I don’t know about you, but I’m not sure if I’d want a crazy brain decorating my mantelpiece…
