The audience of the XPeria Access Q Awards were unimpressed by Comedian Jimmy Carr’s controversial Oscar Pistorius gag.
Yesterday, Carr, 42, performed at the award ceremony, letting lose a dark joke regarding Oscar Pistorius, the South African athlete recently sentenced to five years in jail for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
The Paralympic champion’s case began in 2013 when he fatally shot Steenkamp in his Pretoria home, claiming he mistook her for an intruder.
During his performance yesterday, Carr began talking about his annoyance at having to queue for the toilet, before stating: "So frustrating. All I’m saying is I can see it from Oscar Pistorius' point of view."
An obviously nervous audience waited for the punchline. "That’s not the controversial bit," he went on. "Here it comes… I blame her."
The shocked audience fell silent. Carr added: "If she hadn’t been in that disabled toilet, none of this would have happened.”
After this failed to save the joke, Carr said "It’s the f****** Q Awards, come on".
