It’s not often that you get to go to a festival in a venue called The Great Hall of Cattle. Don’t worry, you’re not the cattle, the venue just used to be a slaughterhouse up until 1974 right in the Paris’ main abattoir district. Now however, the area has been revamped to become one of the city’s most exciting cultural hubs, becoming a venue for exhibitions and music festivals, of which Pitchfork Music Festival is one.
Kicking off the proceedings on 30th October is the master of electronic music James Blake. With two albums under his belt, the promise of a third coming out next year, and after the reputation he gained after Pitchfork two years ago, this will be one hell of an opening.
The next day we have the main attraction of the festival, Belle and Sebastian. Notorious for their limited commercial success, they have however seen an increase in popularity in the last few years leading to a memorable performance in front of 30,000 Latitude fans in 2010 and a mind-blowing performance in 2013 Bestival’s Big Tent. With a new album coming out for the first time in five years in January, tracks from which they will perform at Pitchfork, this performance will definitely be worth the wait!
To close it all off are Jungle, riding high on the critical and commercial success of their debut album Jungle, there is no better way to close a festival than with some 1970s style electro funk!
With acts like St. Vincent, ChVrches, Jamie XX and many more, this festival is not one to miss!
Allons y!
