You know, they ask me questions. Just an example: “What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjamas? A night gown?” So I said, “CHANEL No.5,” because it’s the truth…And yet, I don’t want to say “nude”. But it’s the truth!’ – Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe has been posthumously appointed as the new face of Chanel No.5, fifty-one years after her death. The sex icon admitted that the fragrance was the only thing she wore to bed at night in an unearthed audio recording of a 1960 interview with Georges Belmont, who at the time was the editor-in-chief of Marie Claire magazine. The Chanel house based on this recording has decided to feature Marilyn in a print and TV campaign this coming season.
The campaign will feature an archival photograph by Ed Feingersh showing the blonde bombshell posing with a bottle of Chanel No.5 placed near her cleavage.
Monroe will be taking over from Brad Pitt as the face of the fragrance, who reportedly was given around $7 million US dollars for the role. It has not yet been revealed if power house brand will pay Monroe’s trust for use of her likeness.
