Essex police announced via Twitter that they are searching for a “brainless thief”, who stole a mobile phone and then uploaded a selfie onto Whatsapp. Yes, you read that correctly. The unbelievably clueless individual also managed to give away the fact that he lives in south London, reports Metro, which he disclosed via instant messaging. Oh dear. James Smith, the investigating officer in charge, said, "we really can’t believe that this man has incriminated himself.” Don't worry, James, we can’t believe it either.
The stolen phone belonged to a 12 year old boy, who was robbed near Debden tube station around 11 am on the 1st of October. The mother of the victim received a Whatsapp notification alerting her that our bright theif had uploaded a new photo. The suspect in question is in his early twenties and around 165cm tall. Anyone with any relevant information - or who recognises the thief from his Whatsapp selfie - should contact Loughton police station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
