Rihanna wins battle against Topshop

Topshop face an almost whopping £1 million fee after Rihanna wins permanent ban on Topshop selling T-shirts which feature her face

Rihanna didn’t turn up to the High court hearing last week (Wednesday 25th September), but the Aracadia Group which owns the high street brand was ordered to pay her estimated legal costs of £919,000 - although the judge did seem a little surprised at the value, finding it “startling” and “somewhat surprising”. He admitted, however, that it was “fair” to grant the singer a permanent injunction after the chain had failed to (very expensively) promise to not use her picture on t-shirts in the future.  He also maintained that the sale of the unauthorised merchandise would have damaging consequences to the singers “goodwill” because of her commitment to River Island, for whom she has designed her own line R by Rihanna.  The T-shirt in this case featured a picture snapped by a freelance photographer without her permission on the sets of her “We Found Love” music video in 2011.

Ri-Ri had also asked for any unsold t-shirts to be returned to her however the court was told that all of the 12,000 items had been sold and only five were kept for legal action. Let’s hope Topshop has learnt their £1 million lesson…

Don't screw with Rihanna.
