Two business partners, Paul Manafort and Richard Gates, have just gotten into a lot of trouble with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Doesn't sound that unusual, except Mr. Manafort was President Trump’s former campaign chairman. The FBI has charged them with "conspiracy against the US and money laundering" says Andrew Beatty, the White House correspondent for AFP.
It has been revealed that while Mr. Manfort and Mr. Gates lobbied the US government representing Ukraine, they have received over $75m to their offshore accounts from their clients, without declaring it, as well as denying it. Everyone knows that you don't mess with the IRS...
It was also revealed that members of the President's campaign team were in contact with the Russian government, through a female Russian national.
After the FBI told them to surrender themselves, Mr. Manafort did so.
To add to the sweet irony, in 2016, Newt Gingrich, praised Trump's campaign, saying that 'Nobody should underestimate how much Paul Manafort did to really help get this [Trump] campaign to where it is right now'.
Amazing.
