How Trumps presidency has given way to hate
The streets of Charlottesville, Virginia, were flooded on Saturday by hundreds of white nationalists, that came together for a 'Unite the Right' rally. This new found confidence that the far right has adopted seems to be linked to one man, Donald Trump.
Not surprising seeing how much hatred and prejudice Donald Trump has fuelled throughout his presidency. This new found president has given a platform for racist and outright disgusting opinions to be thrown about, and now the question is, how has this instigator really affected America's already racially divided climate.
Has he just unearthed an ugly side of America that was already there or created a more extreme and confident group of racists?
The answer can differ from person to person, but there is no doubt that Trump has won the support and praise of the country’s white supremacists by previous comments he's made.
Examples of Donald Trump's verbal diarrhoea has included him saying:
"They’re rapists … some, I assume, are good people." When asked to comment on Mexican immigrants.
"Laziness is a trait in blacks." Was another comment made by Trump in John R. O’Donnell's book Trumped in 1991.
“I have black guys counting my money. … I hate it.” According to O’Donnell. Once these comments became public, Trump initially told Playboy in an interview that "The stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true," in 1997.
" He's Mexican," Trump told CNN. “We’re building a wall between here and Mexico. The answer is, he is giving us very unfair rulings — rulings that people can’t even believe." Trump claimed a judge was biased because he was Mexican.
However, before Trump ever called immigrant Mexicans "rapists," he was publicly supportive of the racist conspiracy theory that Barrack Obama was not born in the US, therefore making him an illegitimate President. Even after Obama proved that he was born in Hawaii, Trump said: " I don't know where he was born."
Donald Trump's biased ignorant past and present comments have definitely fuelled the division in America and with his two days of silence on the whole incident that happened on Saturday, this definitely reinstates peoples opinions on the man they call the president.
Counter-protesters equally came out to show defiance against the unite far right rally. A pre-rally march on Friday night saw the likes of a couple hundred tiki torch holding bigots screaming “White lives matter”.
Ironic being that those tiki torches were made and exported worldwide, due to Polynesian culture, wouldn't these 'inferior' products be shamed upon in the Nazi community?
Nevertheless, the far right continued to rally together in the University of Virginia campus until violence broke.This ended in one fatality and 19 injured, when a Nazi took the hood of a wheel and drove into a crowd of counter-protesters.
Other violent tactics were also used by those in support of the 'Unite the Right', a sickening video has been circulating online which shows a defenceless Deandre Harris being brutally attacked with poles by several supremacists.
The rally was organized by pro-white activist Jason Kessler who intended to protest against the removal of a Confederate general statute of Robert E. Lee (also a cruel slave owner) from a park in Charlottesville.
Kessler is affiliated with the alt-right movement which uses methods of trolling online to put across prejudiced views against diversity and vomit nonsense on identity politics.
One of the tactics that got used during Donald Trump election. Rather fitting that Trump would use this ideology to win votes.
The rally quickly blew up a storm in the white nationalist community with other better-known groups of fascists showing their faces, no more white hoods I see, guess the Ku Klux Klan members have decided to revamp their look.
Neo-Nazis also turned up displaying Nazi salutes and waving Confederate flags, surprisingly enough their flags didn't set alight with all the presence of tiki torches around.
