Skream All Night on the Hottest Rollercoaster in Town

House | Thursday 1st August 2013 | James

Skream's new track 'Rollercoaster', featuring Sam Frank, really keeps the disco dream alive.

If Skream’s wonderfully worked remix of Duke Dumont’s ‘Need U (100%)’ gave him a foothold on the disco house scene, this song should certainly give him a steady platform to stand on. Buddying up with Pete Tong on the new All Gone Pete Tong & Skream Miami 2013 compilation, and once again collaborating with experimental producer Sam Frank, ‘Rollercoaster’ is the song that really gets you off your feet.

With Skream upping the dance factor, it’s got the sort of organic groove that takes you back to 1980s disco-pop soul. The synth bass line does most of the work in keeping the track together with the groovy vibe that it was clearly set out to create, giving the feel good vocals that blistering warmth you’d only feel on a hot summers day. All this is complimented by some lovely disco synths that give the song that added colourful flavour and extra funky ‘kick’.

It’s refreshing to hear a renowned dubstep producer coming up with a song that has the feel of a Michael Jackson Thriller track, without abandoning the classic house tempo and structure. ‘Rollercoaster’ is sure to attract dance floors all over the UK, but for how long Skream  keeps up the disco ride remains to be seen.
