Dax J sentenced to one year in prison after playing a track that sampled the Muslim call to prayer.
The techno DJ could face jail time in Tunisia after video footage emerged of him playing a record that had sampled the Muslim call to prayer at the club El Guitone as part of Orbit Festival. Once the local authorities saw the footage the venue was shut down and the manager detained.
Charges against the clubs manager have now been dropped, though Dax J has been charged with public indecency and offending public morality by a Tunisian court. That means Dax faces a year in behind bars, though the time won't be served as he managed to get out of the country before the court hearing.
Dax J has apologised, saying "it was never my intention to upset or cause offence to anybody". The organisers of Orbit Festival apologised also, in a post on their Facebook page - though accepted no responsibility for playing offensive music.
