Combining hip hop infused beats with modern dancehall lyricism, the Baltimore based artist’s album entered at 14 on the Billboard reggae charts before rising this week to number 12. Xyclone, real name Roje Roman Robinson, uses this album to chart the struggles experienced throughout his journey as an artist. Starting from modest beginnings in the basement of his house, Robinson’s assent has culminated in the recent purchase of a recording Studio in Hollywood.
The ten track album includes the hit song Tell the Truth (featuring Star Cole) which is co-produced by Ricardo “Survivor Slim” Raffington and Edward “Kris David” Dodd. Free from label constraints, Xyclone approaches this project with the same vigour as seen in his 2015 release, The Xyclone LP.
2016 saw the adoption of dancehall into mainstream music and Xyclone is certainly benefitting from this new found audience. Set with a continued rise up the chart, this album is simply not one to miss!
