Ahead of their headline appearance for Ritual's daytime party at Egg this weekend, the heads of Lost Records Leftwing & Kody have dropped their favourite London records.
Despite properly launching themselves in 2012, the duo have shook up the scene with their strong releases and their expertise behind the decks. They've held down residencies at Fabric, Sankeys and Rinse FM - while making stops at most major clubs on the circuit.
They're known for their precision 4x4 stompers, though they grew up in London and cut their teeth on our cities thriving music scene. Excited about playing in their homecity, Leftwing & Kody wanted to share with us their top London anthems.
M Dubs - Over You
"This was the first records I ever bought from the infamous Black Records, spent many smoky nights playing and trying to MC over this throughout my youth!"
Scott Garcia - It's A London Thing (feat. MC Styles)
"Do I really need to say anything about this? It was pivotal in my younger raving days, a lot of lemon faces have been pulled to this one over the years! It’s now become a bit of a genre defining record and always goes down a storm."
Kano - P's & Q's
"London Badman Kano spits some serious bars on this one. It’s also really relatible from growing up in the ends. This track also marked a real turning point in grime and London’s bass scene in general."
Dee Patten - Who's the Badman
"Growing up in London in the 90's and cycling through the endless amounts of pirate radio stations this was one track I'd always hear. I love the melting pot of styles on this record."
Shy FX - Wolf
"I was introduced to this track from the Roast/AWOL/Moondance tape packs that I would listen to and swap with my pals in my early teens unfortunately I missed this era of raving because my baby face would stop me from getting into clubs but this track always stood out for me when I was jungle raving in my bedroom. It has one of those basslines that when you hear it for the first time it's definitely a 'WTF is that' moment."
Lenny Fontana - Spirit Of The Sun (S Gurley Remix)
"I have fond memories of this track. It was released in the same year I finally took my DJing career out of the bedroom and into the public domain In London with my crew (big up Stand & Deliver!) For me this track has everything 2 step syncopated drums, wicked catchy vocal and a drop with monster bassline."
