DJ Marfox, AKA Marlon Silva, is one of the main exponents of batida, a club music native to Lisbon, Portugal. Colloquially referred to as the ghetto sound of Lisbon, it emerged from the poorest housing estates of the capital.
As an originator of the sound, Marfox is still a leader of batida. His EP from earlier this year, Chapa Quente, unites elements of continental dance music like house and bass with African dance music like kuduro, kizomba and tarraxinha.
‘Unsound’ from Chapa Quente will please fans of darker tech whilst ‘2685’ is the best thing on the EP – pure, timeless batida.
