Italian Earthquake: people are still being rescued Other | Friday 26th August 2016 | Francesco Italianearthquake RedCross Italy After the terrible earthquake that killed many people in 2009, central Italy is now fighting against another terrible catastrophy. On Wednesday 24th August, Amatrice, Pescara del Tronto and Accumoli were destroyed by the tremor when a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck, killing at least 267 people and injuring at least 400 others. The highest numbers of death occured in Amatrice. Lots of historical and old buildings were destroyed. As the mayor said on Wednesday: "This village is not here, anymore". The death toll could climb again, and there are still people trapped under the mounds of bricks and stone. The rescue mission is still working to help the maximum number of people. The first three and four days are crucial in order to save people trapped in the Dante's Inferno scenario. In these tense moments, there is always a great sense of solidarity and Italian people are donating clothes, food, toys and money in order to try to restore a normal life to the victims that are now suddendly homeless. You can donate directly to the Italian Red Cross, and through this fund https://www.ammado.com/fundraiser/italy-eq/donate that is set up by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Save the Children and The National Italian American Foundation are helping as well. We are all human beings, we should try to care more for who is in trouble like lots of Italians families.
