Sziget Festival

Monday 24th June 2013 | Vilma

Sziget was born as a result of the open-mindedness surrounding the change of the political system in Hungary in the early 1990’s. The first festival in 1993 was arranged by enthusiastic volunteers and to everyone’s surprise the president of Hungary became the patron of the event. Two decades later, in 2012, Sziget won the ‘Best Major Festival’ award at the European Festival Awards and got a top 5 ranking in the Artists’ Favourite Festival category showing that festival goers and performing artist both agree that Hungary is the place to be!

During seven days of festival (5-12th August), one can explore the world of rock with various acts such as Biffy Clyro, Everything Everything and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Michael Kiwanuka is bound to entice his crowd with soulful tunes while names like Azealia Banks and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs are guaranteed to make every festival goer dance! Sziget promises to amaze audiences with David Guetta headlining a spectacular ending show on the last festival night accompanied by fireworks and incredible light effects.

While it can pride itself with spectacular acts from around the world, Sziget isn’t only about music.  The festival also offers other types of cultural entertainment varying from theatre to circus and even a gay-lesbian venue. Not to forget, the festival is held in the middle of Budapest and its beautiful architecture, bars and Turkish Spas.

Sziget offers music, culture and seven days of constant partying so why not book your tickets to Budapest now?
