The Essential: Moodymann

House | Tuesday 27th October 2015 | Jacob

Guestlist bring you the 5 fundamental tracks behind the Detroit legend’s genius in preparation for his appearance at Attack The Premiere this Friday night.

The Formative Track: Emotional Content

The track that propelled Kenny Dixon Jr.'s career into motion. His sampling of Jimmy Bo Horne's Spank and Bruce Lee in Enter The Dragon . Copies of his first release in 1994 now fetch stupid amounts on Discogs.

The Influence: Funkadelic: Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts

The funkin truth. Moodymann cited Funkadelic as one of his main influences in his now-cult Red Bull lecture, and it’s easy to see why. Spiritual shit.

The Party Starter: Shades of Jae

One of the most soulful house records ever, and a record that stands the test of time today. Cemented Moodyman's standing as a Detroit house icon.

The Underrated One: The Third Track

The B-Side to a classic release, The Third Track is Moodymann production at it’s most simple and effective. Not well known, but undoubtedly goes off whenever heard out.

The one for the Aftermath: I Need You So Much

One for the sore heads and battered souls on Saturday. Pure jazz-infused house bliss that will give you some much needed soothing down, after what promises to be a belting evening.
