Mashing the old skool with the new skool | Break - Simpler Times
Drum and Bass |
Thursday 1st October 2015 | Arren
The two samplers have been very successful, but finally its time for Break’s third studio album to drop.
Simpler Times is a body of work that reaches out to all the sprawling corners of drum & bass with a long hard look at the past. Across the 12 tracks expect the brilliant vocals from Kyo, Celetine, Mad Hed City and the legendary Singing Fats, and collabs with DLR and Xtrah.
Its not just a collection of club tracks, though many would do well on the floor, the tracks included make for some easy listening. Break’s production is a class in its own, wedding soulful pauses with the kind of drops to give anyone a nosebleed is a combination this producer has perfected over the years and he has used this to full effect across the 12 tracks.
Break has looked deep into the soul of drum & bass and has produced trip that stops everywhere from Spartan tech-steppy neurofunkal kicks and delicate liquid blends, that’s all seasoned with a healthy measure of jungle. The production value on the album is impeccable and each and every track has been perfectly rounded off. You’ll be driven crazy by the reggae jungle slammer “Free Your Mind” that’s rounded off with MC Singing Fats, or gritting your teeth and clenching your fists to the heavy hitters “Regulate” with Xtrah, “The Flux” and “Kill Dem” featuring Mad Hed City. All whilst losing yourself in the trip hoppy “Nevaeh” completed by Kyo’s poignant vocals.
Simpler Times reminisces on the past, but gives the jungle vibe a completely modern touch. Grab yourselves a copy now!
