The Festivals Less Travelled

In London for the summer? Why not try something a bit different and check out some festivals that you might not have heard about. It would definitely be worth it.
We’re pretty intrigued by Yoko Ono’s Meltdown Festival an eclectic mix of film and live music at the South Bank Centre from the 14th to the 23rd June. You can see the likes of Cibo Matto, Iggy & The Stooges and if you’re not tempted yet, there’s always Boy George on the 23rd. As well as the music Yoko Ono’s famous performance piece ‘Cut Pieces’ will be performed by the musician Peaches. All in all sounds like a pretty interesting weekend.
If that doesn’t sound like your thing at all you might be interested in Hard Rock Calling which is happening in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from the 29th to the 30th June. With Kasabian headlining the Saturday and Bruce Springsteen Headlining the Sunday this sounds like heaven for those that love rock. Also playing are Alabama Shakes, Gaz Coombes and the Klaxons among many, many others. So why not head on down for a bit of ‘Dancing in the Dark’.
If a bit of Alternative Indie is what you’re into then check out the Somerset House Summer Series from the 11th to 21st July at Somerset House. With the likes of Lianne La Havas, Goldfrapp and First Aid Kit this is something you won’t want to miss. You’ll have to be quick thou because tickets are selling out fast.
With a name like Electric Daisy Carnival London why would you not want to go to this? At the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on the 20th July there will be DJs such as Tiesto, Goldie, Dirty South and Fake Blood. The Chicago Tribune has described it as ‘sensory overload’ and it describes itself as ‘filled with magic’. For a day filled with electro, dancing and good good vibes this is the place to go. Get your ticket now!
