Glastonbury Fest

Friday 24th May 2013 | Alex

Here’s something interesting – Glastonbury began the day after Jimi Hendrix died. It’s the world’s largest performing arts festival and it’s from June 26th – 30th this time around.

The line up is wicked, but it’s historic when compared to some other festivals this year – Reading/Leeds attendees were expecting Blur; they got Skrillex. On the Pyramid Stage the Artic Monkeys are headlining on the Friday (who’ve played every festival in every country ever, how did Reading/Leeds fail so spectacularly?), The Rolling Stones on the Saturday (Mick Jagger’s said he’ll be camping like everyone else!) and Mumford and Sons on the Sunday.

In the other slots you can catch an amalgam of cool acts: Dizzee and Elvis Costello are both there and Portis Head and The xx are playing the ‘other stage’.  They’ve done a really good job – trademark rock is in abundance (I mean, The Rolling Stones are there) but the festival maintains an open-mindedness and some curious, exciting artists are on the line-up. You’ll see the bluesy, stripped-down Seasick Steve and activists Public Enemy on the same stage. Tyler, the creator, The Proclaimers, Crystal Castles and Electro Swing Circus are all there, too.

And it’s for a good cause (at least, some of it is). I think half the people at Live 8 forgot why they came once Paul Mccartney slithered on stage, but it’s a nice incentive anyway. Green Peace, Oxfam and Wateraid are represented: they’ll be showing you how to make a difference, and you’re funding them with your ticket purchase.

It’ll be gigantic – get more info here and have a listen to the Stones' 'Doom and Gloom':
