If you’re a fan of soulful and summery liquid drum and bass, the news that LTJ Bukem and Good Lookin’ Records have combined to bring another instalment in the legendary ‘Bukem in Session’ series will have filled you with joy. A refresher course in the best modern jungle-tinged sounds in keeping with the original vibes of the first release back in 1992; this 16-track collection is seamlessly blended together by none other than the man himself.
It combines both established and more recent artists, perfectly highlighting the strength of both the label and genre alike. The standout track for me has to be a stunning rework of Bukem’s game-changing ‘Atlantis’ by Marky and S.P.Y, whilst his ‘Music’ remix comes a close second - getting the silky smooth Technimatic treatment. Vandera’s ‘Anandamide’ instantly takes you back to the original Good Lookin’ sound, the ever lively Random Movement provides a deeper surge with ‘Alone This Way’ (No Need To Stay) as an injection of unbridled funk comes courtesy of Dave Owen with ‘Deep Breathin’. Other particularly blissful contributions come courtesy of DRamatic &dAudio, Furney and Dynamic.
This assortment stands testament of the long-standing and unrivalled Good Lookin' Records, and Bukem himself as a innovator - I was also lucky enough to catch his outstanding set at the last Drum and Bass Arena event. This sun-drenched album serves as an example of the constant stream of quality production from the pair.
