CJ Mackintosh debuts at Vintage House Foundation at East Village on Saturday 6th April
East Village are very proud to announce the line up for the next Vintage House Foundation at East Village. C J Mackintosh will be playing his fine selection of vintage tunes in the basement with support from Dom Moir and Stuart Patterson. Expect vintage and classic house tunes all night long. Whilst upstairs in the lounge Big Stuff with Femi Fem and Barrie K Sharpe will be dropping funk with a touch of soul and reggae.
Vintage house residents Stuart Patterson and Dom Moir have a long history of playing at some of London's best house nights from the late 80's to present day. They will be drawing on this knowledge to add some of the finest real house music made over the last 25 years. To complete a classic London line-up the lounge upstairs is hosted by funk legends Femi Fem and Barrie K Sharpe, two men who shaped London's clubland before house took hold. Their trademark 70's funk sound still stands the test of time and always excite younger ears who maybe hearing it for the first time along with their faithful regulars. Everytime they host the lounge the whole room is rockin'.
“I can understand why people used to cry in clubs in the early days. When you hear the right record, at the right time, in the right place, there’s no feeling like it.” CJ Mackintosh.
C J Mackintosh was born in Paris, raised in London, his DJ career began at the age of 15 when he and his 17-year-old brother set up their own sound system and began playing house parties in South London, mixing up disco, jazz, funk, soul and early hip hop. CJ’s debut was at Flim Flam, an underground influential night in south-east London run by Coldcut’s Jonathon Moore.
In 1987 he won the UK title in the DMC Mix Championship which opened a lot of doors and opportunities for remixing, a collaboration soon followed with Dave Dorrell and Nasty Rox Inc (one of the first bands to mix rock and dance) with a DJ playing alongside the live instruments and show. They toured and recorded an album with Trevor Horn (Video Killed The Radio Star) but it was the one hit wonder with Dorrell that made the real impact. Pump Up The Volume by M/A/R/R/S topped the UK charts in September 87, charting in the US the following year. At that time Radio 1 barely recognised dance music and so the success of this track boosted confidence in clubland and opened doors for the like of Bomb The Bass, S-Express and many Djs who are now what you call Superstar DJs.
Fast forward and CJ has continued his prolific mix career, working on tracks by C&C Music Factory, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, De La Soul, Inner City, PiL, Coldcut and many more…He has released several mix albums, and his Love Happy project charted in 1995 with Message of Love. He has travelled the globe as a DJ, 7 year residency at Ministry of Sound in the 90s. CJ is currently writing and producing music.
CJ Mackintosh takes us on his old skool journey in the basement on Saturday 6th April, with full vintage support from Stuart Patterson and Dom Moir.
