The European Union banned all cosmetic products tested on animals on March 11, 2013.
A day in the sun for all animal rights protesters, for the European Union has issued a ban on cosmetics tested on animals! Including both imported and on sale, and is trying to push other nations to do the same.
Animal right activists victoriously made their point at the EU on March 11 when regulators announced a full ban on the sale or import of a product containing ingredients tested on animals furthermore attempting to push other nations in this direction. The efforts of the EU offer to eliminate animal testing have been going on since the 90’s, and in 2009 most products were banned but not all. Furthermore, according to the New York Times, products that are tested on animals but have no artificial substitute will also be banned, causing cosmetics trade union representatives pause.
“Europe’s idea is to put more pressure on other parts of the world to end animal testing, but the science doesn’t match that political timetable,” said Cosmetics Europe spokesman Colin Mackay to the Times.
