Q. DJ and instrumentalist Son of Kick has achieved a very good fame in UK and in the US. Is it because your super charged DJ sets and impressive production style?
A. Well thanks for the compliments. It is mostly due to the genius that the directors of my videos had when they did them and got me a buzz. I wouldn’t say fame is the right word. Not false modesty but the music is aight.
Q. Your collaborations are with labels including Stanton Warriors’ Beats Records, Equinox Records, Botchit & Scarper, Om Records, Civil Music and Man Recordings. Could you tell us about the experience? Which are the results? What you have achieved?
A. We talking 5 years of subtle evolution so it would be hard to explain it all but each experience has tough me so much about being creative being me within it and about the business and the vampires in it.
Q. Son of Kick is strongly linked to Foreign Beggars. What have you made with them?
A. Foreign beggars are family before all. We have a few tunes together including the one that just dropped on SMOG. The future is full of surprises...
Q. Could you tell us more about your work with internationally renowned artists such as, Borgore, Flux Pavillion and 12th Planet? (Maybe loose this one)
A. I have shared stages with Asaf and Flux and my last release came out on 12th Planet’s label Smog.
Q. Which are your essential roots in music and which is your preferred style? Underground hip hop, Electronic Dance Music, etc.
A. North African ,Middle Eastern are my original upbringing music. After that everything with soul and salt are my shit. The rest is candy (sweet tooth).
Q. Son of Kick also participates in the Grime scene with the collective Virus Syndicate from Manchester. What is the result after fusing elements of dubstep and grime?
A. Grime and Dubstep have been mixed together for years. I dont actually feel that EOW is a Dubstep tune as such. Its a natural evolution towards something, again, hybrid.
Q. Son of Kick released EOW in November 2012. What do you expect; Awards, lives, more remixes…?
A. A lot of pesetas from Golders Green.
Q. EOW seems to have something from the old school jungle/drum and bass style. What do you think about it?
A. I love Jungle. The Congo & Natty times. Im really happy Noad D took it there as its what the EP needed to breath from the other genres on it.
Q. Among the remixes Son of Kick has done, there are some of Jay Z, Bassnectar, The Go! Team, Beastie Boys, Justin Timberlake. This is a very good selection of pop and EDM music. How important is it for you?
A. To blend all the genres is whats fun and natural. Being genuine is the most important to me. Do what i feel is right. "you try keepin' it real (yet you should try keepin' it right)" (Quasimoto)
Q. You have played in SXSW, Fusion Festival, Burning Man. You were also playing with the drummer from Death In Vegas, D.Neale, at Monegros Desert Festival. Is it true? What was the performance like?
A. Was an amazing experience. Intense vibe, great exchange and effort with the whole team to pull that one off. Sick energy with the crowd.
Q. Rob Da Bank, BBC Radio, has acclaimed “Guacha” as one of the best. How does it contribute to your work?
A. It was the remix version i did and it was tune of the week. Massive large up to Rob.
Q. DJ Mag, UK, has told about your music “This is rush music. SUPERB”. What do you think about it?
A. Rush (1991) was a great film just like Dj Mag quote.
Q. You have played in cities like Sydney, Melbourne, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Oslo, Lausanne, Zurich, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, Stockholm, Bucharest, Moscow, St Petersburg, and Krakow. Where do you like to play next? Do you have favourite one?
