BANGING FACE: Bang Face 87 will take you Maya and Maya!
To the uninitiated, the name ‘Bang Face’ might conjure up the image of a lewd fetish party held in a seedy, backstreet brothel. The UK underground dance music cognoscenti, however, know better.
Dean Martin once said “you’re not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on”. ‘Bang Face’ might contend that you’re not really raving unless you’re ducking out of the way of a giant inflatable dinghy, for the third time in a minute, while dressed as an evil James Bond and jumping up and down on the spot, sorry, “dancing” to filthed-up breakcore music which has more beats per minute than a teacher’s cane in a Victorian school, played by a DJ named after a mid-90s pseudo-Italian ice cream. Never has the phrase ‘organised chaos’ applied so readily to an official London club night. The ‘good’ kind of chaos, mind, not the ‘Taliban insurgency’ type.
Fresh from its annual weekender mash-up in Newquay, and having already flown the flag for its unique brand of ‘Neo-Rave Armageddon’ at Glastonbury et al in the summer, ‘BF’ has decided to dangle a triple-threat of a carrot in front of its loyal patrons by combining its 9th birthday celebrations with both the festive period and the end of the known world, as prophesised by the ancient Mayan civilisation.
Fancy dress being a non-mandatory staple of the ‘Bang Face’ vibe, the Mayan/apocalyptic theme will no doubt ramp up the feeling of impending dancefloor carnage instigated by the likes of old skool heavyweights Krome & Time, D ‘n’ B dirt-peddler Cooh, scene leg-end JJ Frost, and a host of heavily talented breakcore, hardcore and noise DJs.
‘BF’ has been re-ensconced in its original and spiritual home of Angel’s Electrowerkz for over a year now, and this year’s Birthday Special might just surpass all that have gone before. And if the world ends at some point during the night? Well, that would be pretty much par for the course. Do yourself a favour: get to Bang Face.
Tickets are available through the Bang Face website: http://www.bangface.com, and other online vendors.
