Review: Scandalism Weekender @ XOYO

Last weekend saw some AMAZING DJs and producers take to the decks at XOYO as part of their Scandalism Weekender event.
The place was fucking oozing with electronic royalty. I almost overdosed on nu-disco alone. (Lies. As if that’s even a thing. Underdoses were rampant.)
Jacques Lu Cont and Alan Braxe headed up night one downstairs at the fabulous Old Street venue and, while things were a little hazy by the time JLC took to the stage, it was a fucking sick night. Alan Braxe dropping numerous gems from The Upper Cuts, including the glorious Music Sounds Better With You, was definitely a highlight (as was hearing Midnight Juggernauts’ Road to Recovery, although I’m not sure who played it. 80 per cent sure it happened though.)
Those who were able to get their shit together and make it down for night two were rewarded with Yuksek and The Magician as smooth as ever. Yuksek’s set was banging and The Magician closing with Toto’s Africa was a lovely touch for those who had grinded out both evenings. Good to see both stylish gents in the same place, following some magnificent DJ sets over the Summer performing as Peter & The Magician (Notably on the beach at Plage de l’Octopussy at Calvi on the Rocks 2012. I make a nice little cameo appearance in the attached video. Haha).
Almost snagged The Magician’s wand when some girl dropped it too. Was all ready to take a huge grab but an undesirable throw and a lack of being able to see were my downfalls =(. Damn it!
Next timee.
Anyway, a good event nonetheless!
