Ping Pong gets as perfect as possible at Pongathon events – at Richmix, Shoreditch, every other Tuesday, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, London.
Pongathon is a crazy Ping Pong extravaganza of tournaments, quirky challenges, a robot, and some serious sporty threads and sweatbands. All this in a room of wall to wall ping pong tables whilst art projections by resident artist VJ Koko flicker on the walls and games pop along to the beat of DJ Alex Gromadzki.
The next Pongathon event is Tuesday 18th September. Pongathon favourite the Pongbot will be resident and challenging competitors with his inhuman ball shooting ability. A Ping Pong Pro is ready to play: they can coach and advise, teach trick shots, and also provide exhibitions and challenge games.
Craig Bryant is this week’s Pro. He’s been a major player since the age of 11! With a range of championships under his belt and a silver medal from the 2004 Commonwealth Championships, you might not beat him but you’ll want to join him at a table even just to see him perform his favourite shot, the “Wiggly”.
Pongathon at Richmix is from 7pm till 11pm, it’s free entry and there’s a bar with reasonable prices. Tournaments are organised all night and anyone can sign up. You and a doubles partner could reach dizzying heights of Pongathon success, there are competitions to become the one to score most against the Pongbot, and lots of cheerful Ping Pong gameplay. If you’re starting to feel like you’re better than the bat take the mini bat challenge to truly test your coordination and push yourself to new Ping Pong limits.
Besides the tables set aside for everyone with the tournaments and so on you can also have a table all to yourself. Tables can be hired out, online or at the event, for an hour for £25, two hours for £40, or you can get a VIP table for the whole night (online only) for £160, and with this you even get a Pongathon hostess to help you organise gameplay and keep track of challenges!
For an amazing Tuesday night get your game face on and dress as ferociously as you feel, head down to Richmix and PLAY SOME PING PONG.
