A-Z of Croatia’s top Festivals

Since the 1990s, Croatian tourism has exploded, and is rapidly becoming one of the most promising industries in the country. Attracting millions of visitors every year Croatia offers novelty, wonderful landscapes, and a wealth of architectural sites at a fair and reasonable price. Whilst many tourists are fulfilled already, Croatians found a way to attract even more (young and hip) people and to make their country the place to be thanks to one thing. Festivals. A perfect way to mix relaxing on the beach and partying to great music at the same time.Throughout recent years many of the festivals have grown in size and reputation; most of which take place during the summer months. Some of them have even gained cult status amongst their fanatic followers and are lauded in music circles, for both musicians and music lovers.
Garden Festival – Tisno
The Garden Festival has taken place every year in July since 2006. This festival is well known for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere; many top Electronica performers light up the stage every year. In 2011 the Garden Festival hosted amongst others Odyssey, Electric Wire and Norman Jay. Last July, the headliners were 2020 Soundsystem, Nicolas Jaar and Tiger & Woods.
Fresh Island - Island of Pag
The only RNB and hip hop festival in Croatia and widely regarded as one of the most important in Europe. Situated on the serene Island of Pag surrounded by the Adriatic Sea it occurs during July; Fresh Island festival has gained a loyal following with many stellar acts appearing such as Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, Redman & Method Man and Montell Jordan.
Hideout - Novalja
Aeroplane, Annie Mac, Sub Focus and Skrillex were part of the 2012 lineup at Hideout festival. This festival is Croatia’s haven for Europe’s electronica music fans. Taking place from the end of June to the beginning of July, this festival boasts the crème da la crème of well-known stars and up-and-coming talent.
Outlook – Fort Punta Christo
If you missed the boat on previously mentioned festivals this summer, you still have the opportunity to go to Outlook. From the 30th august to the 3rd September, this festival attracts an abundance of reggae, hip hop and dubstep legends and fans. Skream, Andy C and Gold Panda will be there, will you?
Dimensions Festival - Fort Punta Christo
Organised in the same place and only few days after Outlook, Dimensions festival favours underground electronic music. The venue makes it even more special; the abandoned fort in which the festival takes place truly adds an extra ‘dimension’. A good way to finish the summer properly, get ready for the dimension festival that will occur from the 6th to the 9th September. Among the guests, Scuba, Moodyman, Kode 9 and MCDE will make the show.
And if you did not find what you were looking for in this list, you can still have a look to Electric Elephant, Suncebeat, Soundwave, Stop Making Sense or the Papaya Day and Night festivals; it seems indeed that Croatia has no shortage of festivals. Enjoy!
