Exclusive Zomboy Interview

Thursday 2nd August 2012 | Osh

Recently back from performing at the world famous EDC festival in Las Vegas and with a new release dropping soon, we sat down with Zomboy. He brought us up to speed on his EDC experience, what he'd do with the power of invisibility and witnessing a girl being fingered in a rave, among other things.

The Guestlist Network: You recently played EDC in Las Vegas, to a massive crowd in the thousands, can you tell us how that experience was like for you?

Zomboy: It was mind blowing, it was my first time on US soil and to be playing Las Vegas at EDC after such a short time in my career it was just incredible. Thousands of people, huge vibes, lots of lights, it was just amazing.

We also saw that you’d posted a link on your facebook to a video of you dropping a brand new song, it sounds sick, what release will that be out on and when we can expect to grab it?

In Vegas I dropped probably two or three new songs from the EP, the EP is yet to be titled but I’m kind of going around the idea of ‘Dead Symphonies’ or ‘The Dead Symphonic’ purely because a lot of the songs on the EP have got a strong orchestral element to them. You’re also going to hear me getting outside of the world of dubstep as well. I’ve got an electro track, which you’ve heard from the youtube video, I’ve got a drumstep track and I’ve got quite a weird new genre, well I guess it’s not really a new genre, but in terms of bpm its 56 bmp which drops down to around 110 bpm, so it’s quite out there but I think people are going to enjoy it. It was amazing hearing it on the big system at EDC.

So as well as massive performances and huge solo material, you’ve also created loads of remixes, can you tell us about some of the remixes you’ve created and how you go about choosing and creating those remixes?

The first remix I did was 'Bass Cannon' by Flux Pavillion, and that was actually a bootleg, which I kind of did off my own back. That was back even before my first EP and that was what really made me push myself out into the world of electronic music, which is really exciting now because that’s been officially licensed. Following that was the 'Hot Right Now' remix for DJ Fresh, it was an honour to be asked to do that. Most recently I did the remix for Skrillex and Foreign Beggars 'Still Getting it'.

What do you enjoy more? Producing or performing?

I don’t know, I’ve always been a producer at heart, I’ve produced music for years, even from way back when producing metal and rock bands and then moving to the electronic scene, producing is still number one for me at the moment but slowly, slowly, djing and live shows are catching up.

Moving away from focusing on just music, what would you do with yourself if you were invisible for the day?

I think I’d just do everything that people would think about if they wanted to be invisible, so all the stereotypical things, I’d rob a bank vault, I’d sit in an Olympic women’s changing room, break into the White House and see what they’re up to, just general snooping around areas I shouldn’t be in.

You’ve got a US tour coming up this fall, can you tell us more about this and what fans can expect from it?

The tour will start in August, it’s my first US tour, hitting all the major cities, with some festivals in there playing with the likes of Flux Pavillion and Bare Noise. Its going to be really exciting both for me and hopefully my fan base as well.
