At the recent Hard Rock Calling festival in Hyde Park, dozens of fans turned up to see icons Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen perform. However, the anticipated rock ‘n’ roll party ended abruptly at 10.38pm, with all sound systems cut off as the council’s curfew put a halt to the festivities, leaving the musicians to silently wave their goodbyes and head off stage in a rather awkward manner.
Although a spokesman for Live Nation claimed on Facebook that the festival’s termination was in the “interest of the public’s health and safety”, avid fans of the rockers did not find this comforting. Many claimed that the incident was “disrespectful”, “An utter disgrace” and “embarrassing”. Nevertheless, the commotion surrounding the festival has proved something quite significant. The outrage displayed by these festival-goers has confirmed the respect and admiration towards the classic rock stars and their music. Springsteen and McCartney clearly have a loyal and dedicated fanbase, but what about the other old school rockers?
Well, looking at the legendary band the Rolling Stones who celebrated their 50th anniversary this year, it is evident that more and more young people are joining the phenomenon for the vintage rockers. Maybe age is just a number, so lets all get to the nearest mosh pit.
