Select Elect has carved a name for quality secret warehouse parties for some time. Previous headliners such as H.O.S.H , Catz and Dogz, Dan Curtin , Elon and a solid team of residents have cemented Select Elects music policy. As standard the Funktion 1 sound system for the night was a nicely eq’d and balanced for what ever came out of the speakers. For their seventh event they enlisted the skills of Berlin based artist Frivolous who is signed to Lucianos Cadenza imprint, also headlining was Greek artist Echonomist ..The night kicked off at 10:30 with resident Spielkamerad spinning some chilled vibes to get people in the mood for the party while the cue was growing outside in the pouring rain.The atmosphere and vibes were positive from the start and the crowd warmed to Spielkamerads flow before fellow resident Pablo Ranacat took to the controls. As Ranacat dropped deep,Disco House the dance floor started to get packed. You could feel the energy that it would be a night to remember for all the right reasons. I met several different groups of people from all walks of life who love what Select Elect is all about and they clearly displayed it on the dancefloor and by the bar waiting patiently for a drink from the ever so polite bar staff. You can find that some warehouse parties have a clicky type atmosphere with moody people but not here, all I could see was beautiful people jumping around laughing and many smiley faces on the dancefloor with their eyes closed, living the moment. It was really good to see a good clear balance of the ratio of girls and boys which few warehouse parties lack sometimes. Following Ranacat was Echonomist who stepped up a gear with his dubby tech/house sound and the crowd answered accordingly. By the time Frivolous stepped up for his Live set the place was on fire. His live set up was not a simple laptop and controller like I have seen so many so called live performances done on this basis. He uses an red telephone for headphones and as a mic and other gear with EFX. He really made a statement with his Live set and had the crowd going from the beginning to the end, Frivolous is definitely a showman as he provided the Select Elect punters an energetic performance which I also had to give a thumbs up. Once Friviolous was done tearing up the dancefloor, the crowd clapped and cheered as he packed his stuff up quickly left the venue as he had to get to an unannounced gig, at this point Toni C jumped on to play the closing set and brought the party to a close with more cheers and clapping by the remaining crowd who still wanted more at 6am.
For the eighth party, they have a special Resolute Label session with Tiefschwarz, Elon b2b with Alexi Delano, Connie and Select Elect residents, this is not to be missed by any account. Israeli born Elon has played several influential roles in shaping New York’s electronic music landscape since moving there in 2000, His Resolute Label imprint launched in 2007 has a list of quality artists and sticks to a motto of releasing quality as opposed to quantity. Key players such as Maceo Plex, Alexi Delano, Dario Zenker, Franklin De Costa, Agaric and more have graced the label so far. The rise of Resolute Label has been steady and consistent , Will this be their best party to date? Hard to say considering all the other parties they have put on have been successful in their own right. I know where I will be on the 23rd June, rain or shine...
