Cypress Hill Interview

RnB/Hip Hop | Tuesday 6th December 2011 | Osh

CH: Yo what’s up, I’m Sen Dog from Cypress Hill, I’m here with The Guestlist Network, just checking the whole scene out, seeing what’s good with London town! What’s up?

Jon: Yo this is Jon from The Guestlist Network hanging backstage with my boy Sen Dog from Cypress Hill! Thanks for taking the time man, how you feeling?

CH: I’m feeling good man, thank you for taking your time and coming down and talking to me for a bit, greatly appreciated, you know what I mean?

J: No doubt, no doubt, so look we’ve got about 2 hours before you go on stage, how are you feeling right now? Are you ready to wreck it?

CH: Actually I’m not ready at this point. I need to go drink some beer, couple of shots, smoke some weed and then just get myself in reckless mode for the performance. I don’t like to leave any part of me off the stage; I want to leave it all on the stage. You know when you get out there and you just have fun, you just wreck shop and give the kids what they came to see. A couple of hours from now I’ll be a completely different person to the one you’re talking to right now!

J: I look forward to seeing that! So tell me, this is the eighth album for Cypress Hill. I know that you’re obviously dropping some big hip hop, home-grown beats, but also you’ve got some metal going on again with Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine. What tonight? Are we going to see some pits, is it going to be live tonight?

CH: Well you know, Cypress Hill tends to bring out the savage in people sometimes, it gets all aggressive and kids express each other by slamming into each other you know, there’s no harm involved. That’s just the way our generation expresses ourselves you know? And it gets physical out there sometimes. When you come to a Cypress Hill show you either stand right along the front or way in the back because in the middle it’s going to get hectic!

J: Yeah and I’m a veteran at your gigs, I’ve seen you a load of times guys and it’s always heavy in there! So when you finish the tour have you got any plans? Any side projects?

CH: I’m just going to get to the studio and do some soul songs, some hip hop. Get back in there with SX-10 and continue to jam stuff, you know what I mean.

J: So you guys have just come over from Amsterdam, I know you spent a bit of time over there. What was going down in Amsterdam? How long did you get to chill out there? Did you get into any mischief over there? What was going down?

CH: Well, you know Amsterdam is Amsterdam..! We posted up there for a couple of days, it’s probably the only part of the tour we’ve been somewhere for more than a day and a half – we did two and a half days there.

J: So tonight, we’ve spoken about the album, we’ve looked at what you guys are doing, we know what you’re doing when you get back; any kind of message for The Guestlist viewers out there? Anything you want to shout out? What about the UK music scene, are you feeling it?

CH: To tell you the honest truth man I haven’t had a great amount of time to know who’s popping, this that and whatever. All I know is in America it’s all about Lady Gaga!

J: Yeah, pretty much the same over here!

CH: Yeah, but I just want to say to the whole UK out there, people in London town, that we’ve definitely got the love for you and all the support that you’ve given us throughout the years, that’s why we keep returning – we feel that we owe it to you.

Oshi: Yes, yes, just chilling here with Sen Dog. We’re doing a project here and I’m one of those people, I smoke all day, every day and I get a lot of shit done and we were just having a little chat about that, and I just want to ask you, have you got anything to say to the people that blaze, they smoke weed but they want to do it big, you know what I’m saying? Because you’re doing it big. Have you got anything for those guys?

CH: Well as long as smoking marijuana doesn’t stop you from being a productive person. I think that’s the only negative about it; people become too comfortable and they forget that life is going on. So, you know, by all means be a productive member of our culture, of our fraternity if you will. I’m talking about us all believers and lovers, and be a productive part of society at the same time. Don’t let them ever point the finger at us and say, “There go those lazy stoners and couch people.” No, because if you knew the real people who smoke and who don’t, you would know that people in high positions who run the world also partake, but they won’t tell you that. I’m just trying to tell you at the same time, be a productive part not just of your community but of hip hop culture, and of the whole marijuana legalisation culture. They’re looking at us and we have to put on a good face so we don’t look like a bunch of crackheads or something like that. So, by all means, get your shit done every day, you know what I’m saying! Coming from a guy that’s in Cypress Hill, we smoke the strongest weed every day, and our main concern is always work! So, I hope I answered your question there!

O: Oh that’s perfect, I feel that! A true smoking legend, I feel that!

CH: Yeah man.
