Jambo!

Although it might have recently received bad press in the news, Kenya is in fact one of the countries you should visit before you die. Visiting the coastal resort, Mombasa, you will be regularly greeted by the locals with a ‘jambo’, translating in to ‘hello’ for us English folks.  Situated by the Indian Ocean, the beach’s sea-life is just one of the many attractions that the country has to offer. The beach’s sea-life consisted of amazing exotic fish, sea urchins and crabs of all different sizes, textures, types and colours.

Mombasa is indeed known for its wildlife. But beware, if you do take a holiday here, be sure to be aware of the wild monkeys. Indeed they will take your food and run off with your sugary drinks if you are not careful! However, the beach boys may provide you with another reason to visit Mombasa. The beach is the perfect place for you to trade your belongings for your parent’s holidays gifts. So remember to bring old clothes and unwanted belongings with you on your journey there. If you love to haggle, this will be your ideal spot for you! Think of Del Boy!

In addition to the golden sandy beaches, a safari trip is something that should not be missed either! On this trip you will drive around in a van and view a variety of wildlife. Some of these animals will include giraffes, lions, elephants, cheaters, and zebras. The van drivers will often drive up close to the animals, letting you get the perfect holiday shot. If the view of animals don’t tickle your taste buds, then a trip to the local village may interest you instead.

In the local villages, families fill the houses and the locals fill the alley ways.  Surprisingly, the children appeared to be just as playful and happy as the children back in England, despite to not having a lot. After visiting the schools, it was pleasantly surprising to find the children learning their subjects in English. There were often 30 or more pupils in a class and the children were well behaved. Their excellent manners and kindness might warm your heart so much, that you may want to take one of them home!

Overall, despite needing several injections and daily doses of malaria tablets, the friendly spirit of the locals and adventurous wild life makes the trip all worth while. This trip will definitely open your eyes, and might even make you question your own morals as a person. More then anything, this country will provide you with a culture shock! Get ready to rumble!
