Into the Wilderness we go

Becoming a force to be reckoned with on the festival circuit, Wilderness is back with more banquets and creative explorations than you can shake a croquet club at.
In its sixth year, Wilderness will take on the power that is Robert Plant and his incredible setup with The Sensational Space Shifters. Exclusive new material is expected as well as tracks from his earlier days with Led Zeppelin. Let's hope the court battle will clear up and the pipers will indeed be leading us to reason by then!
Festival pros the Flaming Lips will be bringing their psychedelic pop-rock and Lianne Le Havas is sure to bring in a big crowd, drawn in by the Summer vibes and her stunning vocals. Experts in the folktronica field Crystal Fighters are also one of our must-sees of the weekend. In the dance corner, Jackmaster and the house legend that is Derrick Carter will be supervising some serious tunes and making sure that the parties after Sunset will be carrying on into the wee hours.
One of the things Wilderness has a knack of doing is bringing out a completely different side to an artist that you would never have imagined. This year Goldie is performing with The Heritage Orchestra to breathe new life into his classic DnB album 'Timeless,' and give it the orchestral feel. Can't wait for the take on that!
Lesser known acts who are perhaps rated for their work with the major players, such as Stevie Parker who has previously supported SOAK and the electronic musician Tourist, who has co-written with Sam Smith are given their voice too.
There's always room for something way off the beaten track at Wilderness, and acts such as Kasai Masia will bring the traditional sound from their nomadic heritage in the Congo with an urban twist. Bands such as Mad Apple Circus, the nine-piece from Bristol who bring about a variety of styles such a Latin and Ska are described as 'a display of jumping musical fusion' and are sure to be one of the spectacles of the festival.
Wilderness's philosophy is that their festival helps you to correct the balance of the busyness in your life and to open your mind to new experiences. This certainly won't be hard with the range of creative pursuits they offer coupled with the all-round hedonistic feel and stunning surroundings...
