The House Party That Love Built

House | Wednesday 11th September 2013 |

To say that 2013 has been a big year for house and techno music may be something of an understatement - with the seeds having been sown throughout a pretty seismic 2012, we’ve now seen Disclosure, Breach and Duke Dumont smashing the Official Top 40, a glut of trendy new festivals like Eastern Electrics, We Are FSTVL and Unknown peppering the already packed summer calendar, and even a Ministry of Sound compilation that promised THE SOUND OF DEEP HOUSE (and promptly had the purists spitting out their teas.) With four to the floor beats and moody basslines seemingly everywhere you turn, how could yet another house night possibly do something different and make its mark on such a saturated scene? For young London collective NVWLS, the answer it seems is simple - by not doing much at all.

Founded this year by three like-minded young DJs from the South East, NVWLS (named as a comment on the scene, made with tongue planted firmly in cheek) have opted to shun themes and gimmicks in favour of focussing on making sure that the music is banging and the punters are pleased. “Some think that’s laziness on our part,” grins marketing manager Eden Cooke, “but honestly that was always the plan.”

To help promote the brand, in the summer the trio embarked on an unofficial tour of the country, throwing a series of house parties wherever the group could set up shop. Taking in Canterbury, Leeds and Lancaster before returning to London for a triumphant homecoming, NVWLS provided partygoers with a taster of what the brand wanted to deliver and built up a considerable online fanbase in the process. Online fans unable to attend events can seek consolation in a series of Guest Mixes - provided by some of the scene’s hottest up-and-coming DJs - as well as the frequent release of free to download NVWLS EPs, featuring  specially-curated selections of fresh and exciting dancefloor sounds.

After a busy summer, NVWLS will be moving in to Plan B’s Basement in Brixton for their official launch party on October 4th. They’ll be bringing Hypercolour prodigy J. Wiltshire, Concrete Music wunderkind Taneli and former Troupe residents Vercetti with them, for a night they promise will provide “the finest music, a carnival atmosphere and upper case consonants - until WAY past bedtime.”
