UKG up and comer Oppidan has released an absolute summer garage banger alongside BBK’s Frisco
Unstoppable UK producer Oppidan teams up with grime royalty Frisco for a vibey UKG summer hit, ‘FRESH AND NEW’, out on 5th July.
Flexing her stellar studio skills, ‘FRESH AND NEW’ sees Frisco’s lyrics about “making moves” in a dreamy pristine location effortlessly bounce over Oppidan’s wavey, filtered sample chops and fittingly clean, skippy garage beat.
Oppidan has rapidly become a shining star in a recent wave of producers translating UKG for today’s ravers with modern production techniques and sounds. Her sublime, choppy edit of the classic The Chordettes track, 'Mr. Sandman', was premiered at major festivals like Glastonbury and Boomtown in 2023, but had already gained over 1M streams from fan-shared rips. In January, it saw its official release, garnering over 2M plays.
Through releases on UKF and Night Bass, and key collaborations with producers such as Sammy Virji, Hans Glader and MC’s Cutty Ranks and Dread MC, Oppidan has earned strong radio support from Radio 1, Kiss FM, Rinse, Reprezent, and international stations like Australia’s Triple J and New Zealand’s George FM. Nominated for ‘Breakthrough Producer’ at 2023’s DJ Mag Awards, Oppidan has toured key UK cities and played festivals like Outlook in Croatia. She also completed a tour of Australia and New Zealand. Earlier this year, she embarked on her 'Armed & Dangerous' UK tour, and will also be supporting Chase & Statusat their Milton Keynes Bowl show next month.
‘FRESH AND NEW’s vocalist, Frisco, needs little introduction. A member of the iconic North London grime crew Boy Better Know, and a key figure in UK music in general, he remains as relevant as ever, evident through June’s GOAT-status ‘GBTH Freestyle’. In 2020, the prolific MC released his ninth album, ‘The Familiar Stranger’, which notably included ‘Red Card’ (14M+ Spotify streams), featuring BBK stalwarts Skepta, Jammer, JME and Shorty. Big Fris also recently worked with UK rap stars old and new like Dizzee Rascal, Flowdan, Chip, Novelist, and Devlin, as well as major drill names like Digga D and Skillibeng.
