Look Out For Luvian

House | Thursday 25th July 2013 | jack

Luvian, real name Alex Fox, is a 20 year old Brighton based producer who has been building momentum recently due to his infectiously chilled and ambient brand of slow tempo electronica.

It is easy, these days, to pull all artists characterised by a warm, atmospheric tone under the ‘Post-Dubstep’ blanket so I use the word with extreme caution. However you get the idea; Luvian is in the same bracket as artists like Dauwd, William Arcane or label-mate Olsen (steer well clear of James Blake/Mount Kimbie comparisons to avoid looking like a massive noob).

Luvian debuted in the electronic music world with Jams, a three track EP released under his own Wolf Blood Label. Tracks like ‘My Life’; a warm, ambient layering of deep atmospherics and rolling snares with an infectious, staccato vocal hook, characterise Luvian’s early style.

After this release Luvian was quickly snapped up by London Label Super recordings who are responsible for releases from Aluna George, Bondax, Olsen, and Throwing Snow to name a few. Among Luvian’s first releases under the Label is the deep and blissful relax-athon ‘Valley Girl’. Listening to this track is like floating naked in a sea of warm milk whilst simultaneously being fed grapes by care bears. A blissfully pained vocal progression permeates through an effortless layering of fluctuant synth and guitar chords, complemented beautifully by the 80s style video. This takes the form of a pretty girl looking at you from different angles in front of a variety of backgrounds (it doesn’t sound like much but it works).

Check out Valley Girl below.
