SHUT IT DOWN- Yarl's Wood detention centre demonstrations Other | Tuesday 14th November 2017 | Geri detention centre Yarl's wood Protest Immigration demonstrations Yarl’s Wood immigration detention centre, a centre that has been likened to Guantanamo Bay by a previous detainee is still locking up and holding female asylum seekers who have been victims of sexual assault and abuse, with no convictions. This is a breach of the government’s own “adults at risk” policy which was released a year ago in response to widespread immigration detention. Which stated that women who have experienced sexual violence shouldn’t be locked up. But here we are, a year on and nothing has changed 1,500 women are still being locked up indefinitely. And it’s time to do something about it. Protests will take place 18th of November at Yarl’s Wood Removal Centre and will contain demonstrators from all over the country- Sheffield, London, Oxford.
