Event Preview: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (o2 Brixton Academy sept 9th and 10th)
Wednesday 3rd July 2013 | Matt
Last year was a huge year for Seattle based rapper Mackelmore; after years of grafting hard in the underground hip hop scene, building a legion of devoted fans along the way, he was finally catapulted into international stardom after the release of his hugely successful independently released ‘Thrift Shop’ single with producer Ryan Lewis. I don’t believe I really need to talk any more about the hit song because chances are that you are already very familiar with the ridiculously infectious anthem unless you have been living under a rock for the past year.
Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis will be bringing their electric live show to the legendary Brixton Academy on the 9th and 10th of September in support of their platinum selling collaborative album ‘The Heist’ .
The main thing to expect from a Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis show is the unexpected! Mackelmore has previously rapped wearing outrageous outfits including dog-print waist coats and batman pyjamas and is well known for performing a daring stunt known as ‘crowd walking’ during his live performances. This is where, instead of the being passed around by the audience on your back like you would with a typical ‘crowd surf’, Mackelmore attempts to walk above the crowd, stepping either on people’s heads, shoulders or outstretched hands. Check the video below to see him in action and be sure to get your tickets to see what all the hype is about.
