Well known for his already impressive record collection, Seth Troxler will now also own the 4,500 records once dropped by Hacienda nightclub resident, Dave Haslam.
Haslam DJ’ed regularly at Manchester’s iconic venue the Hacienda between 1986 and 1990. He was at the forefront of the Madchester scene and performed at the legendary club over 450 times. This is one serious record collection and you can only imagine the absolute gems that are hidden away inside.
Speaking about the collection Dave Haslam explained that it features:
“all the records I played on the four hundred occasions I played at the Hacienda in the 1980s, beginning with funk and soul and electro and Factory Records stuff, and on through industrial and alternative music and into the early acid tunes and the house music revolution”.
After hearing that Haslam was selling his entire collection Seth Troxler jumped at the chance, taking on ownership of a collection of records that was at the forefront of a scene that helped shape the landscape of the UK music scene today.
Seth explained that “as a 30 year old there is only is much you can read about or hear through friends to imagine what it was like during the heyday of acid house and the Hacienda. I think my great joy will be finding new music, hearing things I never knew existed from people forgotten through time. I think it's very important not only to preserve the music but to preserve this collection intact for future generations to enjoy. One factor behind my acquirement of this amazing collection was the transfer of one working DJ to another; and the fact I will be presenting this to people around the world as they were intended to be heard”.
Dave Haslam was pleased when Seth got in touch - “the records were brought by me to be played - it's a working DJ’s collection - and Seth’s commitment to music and to vinyl is fabulous. There’s stuff in there he’ll know and love but stuff he’ll discover too, and through him, and thanks for taking them on and playing them out, new audiences will discover them too, and enjoy them. They’ll give pleasure to Seth’s audiences, just as they gave pleasure to me and the audiences I played them too. I’ll miss them but they’ve gone to a great home”.
It's no secret that Seth Troxler is a huge fan of music from by-gone eras, this summer he hosted a huge celebration of acid house at the Tobacco Docks, Acid Future. The party wasn't just an excuse to party but more a celebration of the ethos and spirit of acid house whilst looking into what the future may have in store of the genre. With these latest editions Seth can add even more wild cards to his record bag which were the tunes that dominated the underground in previous eras, the future of acid will be more authentic than ever.
