Moodymann @ Attack at the Premiere: Review

Moodymann at Studio 338 was always going to be big. So big it’s taken this long to sufficiently muster up a review. Probably due to everyone in attendance feeling as hazy as the fog that has descended upon London over the proceeding days since it has taken place.
This was full-throttle Halloween business. Featuring a 30ft space monster, tripped-out visuals cloaking the DJ booth and a massive overhead balloon, confetti and popcorn(!), it was a complete sensory assault from start to finish.
The venue was busy from the off and the music was never going to disappoint. The Lobster Theremin boys kicked off proceedings, playing their staple brand of woozy techno in Room 2. Christopher Rau then laid down some effervescent house before the main man stepped up. Despite missing Moodymann’s trademark mic-mastery, the music remained so slick it became an afterthought amidst all the excellence on offer to the lively crowd.
Percolate and Mad Ferret have set the bar high, and we expect more big things to come from the pair, who collaborate next in Summer 2016.
