Liverpool’s iconic club Nation will be closing their doors for the last time at the end of this year. The decision has been made due to a redevelopment of the Wolstenholme Square area, where the venue is situated. Don’t be annoyed though as the company behind the redevelopment, The Elliot Group, will be constructing a new subterranean music venue as part of a £40million regeneration of the area.
An Elliot Group MD said “This scheme is a unique opportunity to fit a state-of-the-art nightclub seamlessly alongside modern homes, both of which are key to Wolstenholme Square's long-term competitiveness and appeal. Ensuring the scheme is well-matched to Cream's needs has been a key focus throughout and we're delighted that we've now reached a point where everyone is really eager to see things get going”.
Nation, notable home to Cream, is one of Liverpool’s leading clubs and has attracted fans of dance music from across the UK with a string of strong events since 1992. A pretty epic list of DJs who have performed at the venue include Ferry Corsten, Sasha, Loco Dice and Paul Oakenfold.
The new venue will soon have its designs released and they are said to retain the ‘industrial’ and ‘underground’ feel whilst a promising to deliver better quality production that’s adaptable. But before then there is to be a series of shows at the venue for their 23rd birthday celebrations, with the final dance to take place on Boxing Day.
