Ten Walls' career lies in ruin

Dance music culture is known for being open-minded, liberal and tolerant of different beliefs and ideologies. So once you break your way into the scene it wouldn’t be wise to advertise to the world that you are in fact a closed-minded bigot, and that’s exactly what Ten Walls has done.
Ten Walls had kicked off a great career in dance music with big hits like ‘Walking With Elephants’ and ‘Sparta’ getting recognised in both underground and mainstream music. But following a homophobic outburst on Facebook last week, the Lithuanian producer has shot himself in the foot and potentially destroyed his own career. Following the post, where he describes homosexuals as the "other breed", Ten Walls watched as his first big summer as a DJ drew to a rapid close. Line-up after line-up removed his name, his DJ agency dropped him and even a support DJ cancelled his slot to perform alongside him.
Gay Star News first picked up the comments from his Facebook profile last week and reported on the DJs close-minded opinions, where he makes a number of offensive remarks towards the gay community. The post in question has since been removed from the page, and an apology has followed, reading "I want to apologize for the former post in my account. I am really sorry about its insulting content which does not reflect my true opinion".
A Facebook apology isn’t enough though. The aftermath of the post has seen Ten Walls' name lying in ruin. A number of festivals have scrapped him from their line-ups, including Creamfields, Sonar and Pukkelpop. His supporting act Fort Romeau pulled out of his slot for Ten Walls’ appearance at London’s Koko stating: "while cancelling one gig is hardly going to change the world, it does stand as a personal rejection of bigotry, fear and intolerance:. The final nail in the coffin comes from Coda Music, his former booking agency. They released a statement explaining: "Coda Music Agency condemns all forms of discrimination based on race, religion or sexual orientation … We no longer represent Ten Walls".
The name Ten Walls is in ruin, and he only has himself to blame. The house producer yesterday posted on Facebook, again apologising but he also announced that he needs a break and has cancelled his summer schedule. The power of social media is strong and it seems that the masses have spoken; Ten Walls learnt the hard way. Dance music hasn’t lost anything special though, he couldn’t accept a community that had everything to do with the creation of the music he represented, so how could he ever have been a part of it?
