Best local coffee shops in Stockholm for summer!

Other | Wednesday 27th May 2015 | Jelena

People don’t always go to coffee shops just for a drink, but to have a laugh with friends or relax while reading a book. The “coffee shop culture” is very popular in Sweden and is a fantastic way to spend time with loved ones. Depending on your mood there are various coffee shops, from charming and cosy to urban and eccentric, where you can experience the Swedish ‘Fika’ (coffee time).

Café Alberts

”Great place to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. We started our morning with delicious muffins. They made an iced chai even though it wasn't on the menu!” - Nicole, 2013

Café Alberts is located in the heart of Stockholm and is a small charming café perfect for eating breakfast, lunch or even a light dinner with friends. You can sit back and relax while enjoying their homemade pastries or delicious sandwiches with a cup of aromatic coffee  and enjoy the exciting city rhythm pulsating in front of you.

This coffee shop attracts everyone but as evening arrives you mostly see young people coming together to enjoy the "Swedish bright nights" as it never gets completely dark during summer in Sweden. And as Café Alberts is open until 6am there's no need to rush. And don’t be surprised if you see a celebrity passing by!

Espresso House

“Coffee tastes great (no matter which particular coffee shop you choose to visit, they all stand for a common high standard), everything chewable makes you want to return to this place. You'll definitely get a much more value for money here, than at any other coffee shop chain (yes, coffee does taste much better in Espresso House, than in Starbucks!). The interior is cosy and welcoming!” – Loraq, 2015

Espresso House considers coffee making an art, and this proven by their passion and dedication to serve their customers with the best ingredients. They have a wonderfully varied menu and the environment is cosy and charming - the perfect place for relaxing and catching up with friends and family. And the longer you stay, the more you can eat!

Thelins Konditori

"Coffee and Princess Cake or a Mazarin is a must as this institution. Quality of the baked goods and sandwiches and service is at the top” – Bo, 2014

If you are in Stockholm and feel like spoiling yourself a bit, this is the place to go! Ever since Thelin was founded in the early 1900s, the bakery has strived to provide both products and customer care of the highest quality. Thelin recognizes the importance of delivering really good products to their customers; they believe it is healthier to eat bread and pastries that have been manufactured with care and with high quality ingredients. The traditional Princess Cake is a must here!

Kaffe Koppen

“Nice atmosphere, great food and accommodating servants. Will always be my first destination for a Kladdaka (Traditional Swedish chocolate cake) with whipped cream. Best in town!” – Markus, 2015

This coffee shop has a special place in every Fika lover’s heart as it is placed in the Old Town, which is a historical monument in Stockholm. As soon as you step into Old Town you feel a different vibe in the air. Everyone is relaxed, you see tourists from all over the world and it feels like you are on a holiday for a couple of hours.

Kaffe Koppen embraces something authentic and urban which attracts people from all regions and age groups. Their traditional Swedish chocolate cake ‘Kladdkaka’ with whipped cream is absolutely a must when you come here! It tastes so much like homemade that you'll have to check that your grandmother isn't working in the kitchen!

Muffin Bakery

I have not tried anything else but the muffins. They are awesome, I like that you can order a simple one like the blueberry or lime and they're exactly what you expect. Great place, will go again.”– Gabriel, 2014

From brownie to strawberry cheescake to chocolate orange to apple cinnamon, the muffins here are simply mouthwatering. There are twelve different flavours of freshly-baked muffins to choose from and they go perfectly with their Italian blend coffee. Don’t be surprised if you see more Americans than Swedish people here, that's how good the muffins are!
