Pussy Riot have been all over the news since their arrest in 2012. On May 22, Maria Alyokhina went on a hunger strike after, allegedly, being denied of her right to attend and denied parole, according to the NME. On 29 May, Alyokhina was hospitalised in a hospital in her prison colony.
This is not Alyokhina’s first hunger strike; a hunger strike was previously held, with fellow bandmate Nadezhda Tolokhinna, when she first was incarcerated.
Pussy Riot was arrested for misconduct after the band released a music video titled “Punk Prayer – Mother of God, Chase Putin Away!” This caused a major backlash in the public around the globe and a rise of an “Anti-Putin” strike.
